H A R V E S T - 2018

H a r v e s t. If we can call it that? We had a ton of fun “harvesting” our first crop. Using our favorite method to date - our hands. Morgan thought it was a ton of fun to go out and fill a bucket in the cool evenings. We are hoping to have enough of a crop to get our machinery dirty next year - but for the time being, we enjoyed our time and our nuts this year. Matt dried all of our nuts under our wood stoves, cracked them out, and we all got to try out some recipes. My personal favorite was the double chocolate hazelnut c o o k i e s. Three dozen cookies gone in less than 48 hours. They were t a s t y.

2018 Hazelnut Planting

Hazelnuts are in for the year. We planted 40 more acres of hazelnuts this winter, converting more of our pasture ground into orchard ground. It has been a slow transition but I think we are all thankful for that. I have been learning to love the repetition in the work schedule and the satisfaction of seeing all our hard work take shape. I miss working with cattle as often — but like everyone tells me — hazelnut trees don’t break out of their fields — so that’s good. Hazelnuts have been a wonderful addition.
